After Twenty Years, Real Estate Ads Come Back To The Super Bowl

If I told you that it has been 20 years since a real estate ad has aired during a coveted (and expensive) Super Bowl commercial slot, would you believe me?

It sounds improbable that real estate giants would forgo the biggest advertising experience of the year for that long, and yet its true. Thankfully, the real estate silence has been broken Century 21 Real Estate, and once again real estate has come back into the spotlight.

Century 21 Real Estate’s 30-second ad ran during the third quarter of this Sunday’s Super Bowl. The commercial showcased Donald Trump, Apolo Ohno, Olympic speed skating medalist, and NFLer Deion Sanders. There were also four mini-ads that aired throughout the event.

“In 2011 we [Century 21] celebrated our 40th anniversary. Prior to last year’s Super Bowl is when we decided we really wanted our full year celebration to culminate in something big and we view this as something big,” says Bev Thorne, chief marketing officer of Century 21 to Forbes.

The question then remains, why did Century 21 decide to go with a spot this year? According to a rep from the Nielsen company, the Super Bowl kicks off the Spring home selling season, a time in which, traditionally, more homes are sold.

The company doesn’t believe that a commercial can increase home sales, they just want Americans to keep the Century 21 name on their lips when thinking about agents. Makes sense to us, in the same way we want you to keep Home Appraisals Inc. in your mind when selecting a home appraiser.

Check out this mini-ad and tell us, did it do a good job of representing the real estate company?
